About Emma Davies
Who Am I?
Emma Davies is both the clinic director and sole practitioner.
I am a registered General Nurse (1987), specialising in aesthetic medicine since 1998 and a qualified independent nurse prescriber (2010).
The story of my journey into aesthetics
I qualified at The Royal Free Hospital as a General Nurse in 1987 and began my career in Aesthetic Medical Nursing in 1998.
At that time there were only a handful of specialists - we all knew each other and our repertoire was limited to collagen injections. We were known as ‘collagen nurses’ and very few people knew what we did. The terms ‘Aesthetics’ or ‘Cosmetic Medicine’ had not yet been born.
However, by 2000 the field was developing rapidly. Hyaluronic acid dermal filler injections had come onto the market in 1998. Exciting innovations in the quality and versatility of products drove demand, and further innovation in what was becoming known as ‘cosmetic’ or ‘aesthetic medicine’. The use of botulinum toxin for treating expression lines saw a revolution, not only in demand, but in the number of doctors coming into the field.
Like many others at the time, I began my practice offering monthly clinics in partnership with beauty salons around the South West. The travelling and various facilities I had to adapt to stopped making sense, so I took the plunge in 2003 and opened my own clinic in South Horrington.
Because I was well known in the field, I was head hunted for part time roles in larger clinics, and always valued the experience of working in teams and in more corporate environments. Over the years I have worked for Transform Medical, Destination Skin and The Royal Free Hospital (Private Clinic).
I’ve also been privileged to work at excellent independent clinics, The Melbury Clinic in Dorset and now Simon Lee Clinic in Bristol. In addition to sessions at my own private clinic near Wells, I continue to work two days a week with the team at Simon Lee Clinic, who have become like family to me.
Award Winning

In addition to my Clinical Practice
I have always felt committed to professional standards and safety in practice, so alongside my clinical practice I have dedicated time to furthering safety and education. I have founded professional associations to bring professionals together to share and promote best practice and participated at policy level in consultations and reports.
I also write for publication and present at conferences on topics related to aesthetic medicine, from clinical to professional and political.
Roles
Royal College of Nursing - 2000-2010
Being a part of the early vanguard of specialists, I was delighted to join esteemed colleagues on the committee of aesthetic nurses at The Royal College of Nursing in 2000. Amongst other projects, we wrote the first competency and career framework in this field - published and internationally referenced. This document has since informed government reviews and continues to be referenced in academic institutions.
Founder and Board Member The British Association of Sclerotherapists - 2003-2022
The treatment of leg veins has always been a special interest of mine. I’ve been privileged to work with expert vascular surgeons and specialists in the field, and wanted other aesthetic medical specialists to have the same access to vascular specialists that I benefitted from. Having established a training programme second to none and internationally renowned Veincare Training, I gathered respected experts and formed BAS, which provides essential support and continued learning for practitioners of sclerotherapy nationally.
Consultant Editor Aesthetic Medicine Magazine - 2003-2022
With the range and scope of new techniques and treatments rapidly expanding, what we didn’t have was a journal specifically covering non-surgical cosmetic treatments, issues and news of interest for those in practice. I designed the kind of journal I would want, and pitched this to publishers. The first aesthetic medical journal was launched and continues to lead. Others have joined the selection of publications we now have on offer. I continue to serve as consulting editor and regularly contribute opinion pieces and sometimes educational pieces.
Chair The British Association of Cosmetic Nurses - 2010-2014
During my time serving at the Royal College of Nursing, I saw the role of nurses in aesthetic medicine continue to expand and knew we needed more guidance than the RCN could provide. So in 2010 I founded, with the support of colleagues, The British Association of Cosmetic Nurses. Whilst I was Chair, the Association won Association of the Year at The Cosmetic Awards for four consecutive years. The Association continues to thrive today, providing a sense of community and support for nurses in this field. It also provides guidance on standards and education as well as a political voice and representation when needed.
Founder and Vice Chair Aesthetic Complications Expert Group - 2010-2020
Also in 2010, concerned that the diagnosis and management of complications was never addressed in training, and being rare, remained a mystery to the majority, I formed The Aesthetic Complications Expert Group. This brought together a team of dedicated and experienced professionals to publish consensus guidelines, based on a thorough examination of the evidence base. The Group has expanded in its scope to provide support and guidance, an emergency helpline and an on-line forum for sharing cases and experience. The ACE Group, as it is known now, has over 4000 members and complications are no longer a topic not to be explored or presented at conferences and workshops. The ACE Group won Professional Initiative of The Year in 2017.
Founder and Board member Complications in Medical Aesthetics ~ Collaborative (CMAC) - 2020-Present
Providing education and support on the prevention, diagnosis and management of complications in medical aesthetics across a global community..
Clinical Director Save Face - 2014-Present
In 2014 I was invited to join the first government approved voluntary register of accredited practitioners, as Clinical Director of Save Face. The lack of regulation in this field has long been a source of concern and frustration. Whilst the government fails to act, I am delighted and very proud to be doing something rather than nothing, taking this issue by the horns by being part of this platform for self-regulation - one that has gained momentum, and is making a difference.
